Hinterland connections of German maritime ports
Competitive factor for Eastern European growth markets

Chaired by: Economist Hans-Wilhelm Dünner
Publisher, SCHIFFAHRT HAFEN BAHN UND TECHNIK

Eastern Europe is one of the most important global growth markets. In addition to bulk transportation, container transport has the most growth potential. German maritime ports are in competition with the Rhine estuary ports and Baltic ports to supply Eastern Europe. The quality of the seaward approaches to Bremerhaven and Hamburg, and the rail and canal infrastructure into the interior are decisive in the further development opportunities of the German maritime ports.

Telematics systems take over the market
Experiences, extensions, expectations

Chaired by: Prof. Dr. habil. Claus C. Berg
Chief Executive, GVB e.V.

Telematics systems are becoming increasingly important in fleet management. There is a wide range of systems and so it is often hard for potential users to know which to select. Are the requirements of the user being covered by the systems on offer or are technically sophisticated solutions being sold that ask too much of drivers and schedulers? And do vital software modules leave something to be desired when it comes to temperature monitoring, load securing, prevention of tampering or monitoring working hours? GVB e.V. is currently taking a close look at these issues in the “Practical problems in using telematics systems” study group. Experts from the telematics industry will discuss possible solutions to these problems in the forum.

Towards zero-emissions
Concepts, technologies and experiences in maritime and inland ports

Chaired by: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carlos Jahn
Director of the Fraunhofer Center für Maritime Logistik und Dienstleistungen CML, Hamburg

The maritime sector is also expected to make its contribution to climate protection and reducing emissions. And it is making progress in this direction. In ports and terminals, the starting point for environmental strategies are the many diverse solutions and tools for operational activities and long-term planning. In the forum two manufacturers of vehicles for transhipment will report on current projects and a terminal operator will give a talk on his strategy, successes and the obstacles facing him. In this way the forum addresses the entire spectrum, from measures that can be immediately implemented to future scenarios and ways in which these can be achieved in a targeted fashion.

Sustainable mobility in practice
Everyday solutions for urban freight traffic

Chaired by: Torsten Buchholz
Editor-in-Chief, Transport magazine, HUSS-Verlag, Munich

There are real ecological and practical economic applications for urban delivery vehicles – vans, medium and heavy duty trucks – with electric or hybrid drive, as is being demonstrated through trials and projects currently taking place throughout Europe. Some companies have even gone one step further and are already benefiting from using these clean and quiet vehicles for daily transport tasks, which is good for the environment and improves their image. Experts from the utility vehicle industry and representatives from the transport industry will present current projects in the forum.
